After my successful campaign to oust the mayor ended, I decided it was time to focus on public outreach. I needed to use my design skills to encourage people to get involved in saving the shelter, so I created the little graphic to the left.
I wanted the look to be inviting, so people would want to attend. It was important to make it seem like an invitation to an event, and not just a dull board meeting, which is essentially what it is.
I created a Facebook event and invited as many locals as I could, and shared on Twitter, Nextdoor and pushed and pushed to get people in the door.
Was I surprised when the room was filled? Yes. I adjusted the look and created a totally different one in future board meetings, but am most happy with the original. It's been great to see rooms full of concerned citizens at the meetings, because that shows the city that we're concerned and raises awareness about the issues at our city pound.
